Fishery and aquaculture sector: Commission approves EUR 122 million Danish State aid to reduce CO2 emissions

Today, the European Commission (Commission) has approved a EUR122 million (DKK 910 million) Danish aid scheme to reduce CO2 emissions in the fishery and aquaculture sector.

The scheme aims to help large Danish fish-processing companies lower CO2 emissions from their energy use by funding projects like transitioning from fossil fuels to electricity, renewable district heating, or biomass. The measure takes the form of direct grants and will be running until 31 December 2029.

The Commission approved the scheme under the Guidelines for State aid in the fishery and aquaculture sector. It found that the scheme is necessary, appropriate to encourage the relevant investments and proportionate.
